The Blue Fledglings
Species Name?! Blue Fledglings!
Life Expectancy?! Fledglings stay this way from Third to Sixth former year, aka four years, until they make the change into Vampyres. However, 1/10th of Fledglings don’t make it through the change and die instead, or become Red fledglings.
Diet?! Normal diet, much the same as a human. However, to help along with the change, Fledglings are encouraged to eat a healthy diet, which is provided by the school and unhealthy snacks are discouraged.
Diet Notes?! All Vampyres experience the need to drink blood daily. Blue fledglings, however, do not experience this need until they get closer to the change, which is when they start desiring it slowly and at a steady increase.
Hierarchy?! There is no real Hierarchy among Blue fledglings, but they do go from Third formers, which is when they are first marked, to sixth formers, when they are about to make the change. There is a group of fledglings called the Dark Daughters and Sons as well, and they are considered the top fledglings in the school in various areas and often lead school functions and such, much like a student council.
How?! When a human is around 14 to 16 years old, they may become Marked by a Tracker. It is unsure how the Tracker picks the Fledglings, how they know where they are, etc, but its almost like a mystical event. The Tracker touches the chosen one’s forehead, speaks a certain phrase about the teen being chosen. Often the chosen teen feels dizzy, but they must be taken to the House, which is like a boarding school, immediately or they may die.
Offspring?! Blue fledglings are unable to have children. Due to having a higher body temperature, if the fledgling is a male he is now sterile and if the fledgling is a female she will stop menstruating.
Appearance?! Fledglings are like humans, but more enhanced..Fledgling skin has a smoother texture, and their hair is thicker with a greater tendency to grow longer, most fledglings have long hair. Most female fledglings at least, but it is unlikely to see a boy with a buzz cut. They do not have fangs however, not the blue fledglings at least. They also gain a sapphire outline of a crescent moon on their forehead which starts out soft and indistinct, but it becomes more distinct and darkens as they get closer to the change. They also experience increased stamina and strength, and their bodies become more tolerant to changes in temperature.
The Abilities?!
- The Fangs: As stated before, Blue Fledglings do not have fangs, however their teeth are stronger and straighter to help them at this task.
- The Saliva: coagulants and anticoagulants develop in their saliva, to help them again with the act of drawing blood, this comes in more as they get closer to making the change.
- The Sight: Fledgling eye sight gets much better in the dark, and they can see almost as well in the dark as the light, but it’s not perfect. This is because fledglings are sensitive to sunlight and this is required to help them survive in their nocturnal life
- Affinities, which are better explained in this thread here
The Change?! Many fledglings do not make the change. On average, one out of every ten fledgling will not succeed in the change. The Change is when a Fledgling turns into a Vampyre, and their Marks, which are like tattoos, will form. To help more fledglings get through the change, they are required to stay active and healthy, and keep on a healthy diet. The change is not said to be painful, but it is different for everyone and occurs some time during their sixth former year.
Weaknesses?!
-Blue Fledglings must stay close to the House because they need to stay close to the Vampyres. They are allowed to go to town for short periods of time. If they stay away from Vampyres longer than a few hours, they will get weak and begin to sicken, if they stay awake for longer than that after this, they will reject the change and die.
-They won’t burst into flames, but fledglings find sunlight uncomfortable, and sleep during the day, and are active at night
The Blue Vampyres
Species Name?! Blue Vampyres!
Life Expectancy?! Vampyres experience a longer life span, which is somewhere around 300, because they age much slower. They also experience a life without illness.
Diet?! Vampyres can eat a normal human diet, much like anyone else. This is necessary to survive of course, and they often still stick to the healthy diet they experienced as Fledglings.
Diet Notes?! All Vampyres need to drink blood daily to survive. They crave it. Rather than drinking straight from the source which can lead to imprints if one isn’t careful, they drink blood gained from blood donors and blood banks, often mixing it in with their wine and drinking it with every meal to sate the need for blood.
Hierarchy?! Vampyre hierarchy is a real thing, even if it is not oppressive in any manner. All vampyres have to listen to the words of those on the council, and all Houses are led by a High Priestess. These vampyres are often, if not always women. They also are those who are closest with Nyx. There are also the Sons of Erebus, who are warriors who devote themselves to protecting their chosen vampyres, who are often High Priestesses. The hierarchy can often be shown through marks, those who are more marked are often higher in status. It was once thought that these marks were given by the Goddess Nyx, but when Kalona took over she appeared to go silent, and thus the marks are now more of a mystery.
How?! A Vampyre comes to be after a fledgling makes the change. They gain marks to show their status.
Offspring?! Blue Vampyres are unable to have children. This is for the same reasons that the fledglings cannot.
Appearance?! All of the appearance notes for blue fledglings still stand, but they appear to go more enhanced. They always appear to be super gorgeous and talented, according to the rumors (but no Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus all the same!) They also have a full set of Marks, to be explained below.
The Abilities?!
- The Saliva, Sight and Fang notes from Blue Fledglings still stand
- Strength: Blue Vampyres are stronger than humans
- Vampyres always know when the sun is about to rise
- Vampyres have a very strong sense of intuition, almost like a sixth sense
- Affinities, which are better explained in this thread here
The Marks?! After a fledgling makes the change into a Vampyre, the crescent on their forehead fills in, becoming fully Sapphire blue. They also gain marks that spread out from the crescent and are unique to the vampire. It reflects something important to them, or a great trait within them, for example Tabitha Hale is the Drama Professor and her Marks look like the Tragedy and Comedy masks.
Weaknesses?!
-Blue Vampyres are not as strong as the other types of Vampyres and can also not stay out in the sunlight as it is uncomfortable for them
The Red Fledglings
Species Name?! Red Fledglings!
Life Expectancy?! Technically, red fledglings are dead, but we’ll get into that later. Much the same as Blue fledglings, red fledglings stay this way until they change. However, their change is different, but we’ll get into that as well.
Diet?! Red Fledglings can stomach a normal human diet, and much like the blue fledglings they also stick to a healthier diet. However, this is not a need for them, seeing as they’re already dead, and thus they can get away with less healthier foods from time to time.
Diet Notes?! Unlike the Blue Fledglings, Red Fledglings need blood. They survive on it more than they survive on a normal diet. How often they need the blood depends on the fledgling, but most need a bag of blood a day, if not more. If they don’t get this they often go Feral, which shall be explained later, and will do anything for the blood they need.
Hierarchy?! There is no real Hierarchy among Red fledglings, but they do go from Third formers, which is when they are first marked, to sixth formers, when they are about to make the change. There is a group of fledglings called the Dark Daughters and Sons as well, and they are considered the top fledglings in the school in various areas and often lead school functions and such, much like a student council.
How?! Red fledglings were once Blue Fledglings, and became Blue the same way that all Blue Fledglings do. However, note that in the Blue Fledgling info I state that 1/10th of every blue fledgling does not make the change. That is where the Red Fledglings come from. If while the Blue Fledgling is rejecting the change they are given a certain potion, they will become a red fledgling. They die, and then come back to life a few days later, always without their humanity. That must be gained back.
Offspring?! Red fledglings are basically dead, so no kiddies for them.
Appearance?! Much like Blue Fledglings, Red fledglings are enhanced physically. Their hair is thicker and their skin is smooth and beautiful. They, unlike blue fledglings, have a red outline of a crescent moon on their forehead. Most of the same appearance notes for Blue Fledglings also apply here.
This changes when they are feral. A feral Red Fledgling is obviously feral. Their eyes turn red and wild, their skin gets paler, and they gain fangs. They seem more vicious, mostly because they are.
The Abilities?!
- The Fangs: Unlike Blue fledglings, Red fledglings actually have fangs. However, they only appear when the fledgling is feral, angry, hungry or well, horny. If they’re calm, the fangs are entirely hidden away.
- The Body: A Red Fledgling may be dead, but their heart still beats entirely. They also still breathe, but this is more out of habit. For short periods of time (nothing more than three minutes) they can stop breathing. Usually when they’re scared or shocked does this happen, they’re distracted and forget.
- The Saliva: coagulants and anticoagulants develop in their saliva, to help them again with the act of drawing blood, this comes in more as they get closer to making the change.
- Compulsion: It takes a lot out of them and they must make eye contact first, but Red fledglings can influence the people around them, make them do something or make them think something. It works best on humans and those that are weak minded
- The Sight: Red Fledgling eye sight gets much better in the dark, and they can see better in the dark than the light, unlike with Blue Fledglings, their eyesight is perfect in the dark and the light blinds them. This is because red fledglings will die in sunlight and this is required to help them survive in their nocturnal life
- Affinities, which are better explained in this thread here
The Change?! Unlike with Blue Fledglings, Red fledglings change after making a huge decision. When they side themselves with the light or the dark, they change to Red Vampyres. This is not like…oh I think I’m happy today, I chose light. It has to be a life changing choice, like taking a bullet for someone or plotting to kill someone else. It has to be a choice that can change their life. This often gets made at their Sixth former year.
Feral?! Red fledglings fall into a Feral state. When they first rise as a red fledgling, they are in this state. Feral fledglings get this way for a few reasons, hungry or angry are the main reasons. It’s when they lose their humanity. Feral Fledglings are creatures ruled almost entirely by instincts and they do not see reason, ever. They most often do not even recognize their closest friends. If they want something they take it, and they will not feel remorse, even if they kill someone. Though this often shocks them into realizing what they did and coming back to the real world. They often snarl or growl. Think the vampires of old legends.
Weaknesses?!
-Red Fledglings must stay close to the House because they need to stay close to the Vampyres. They are allowed to go to town for short periods of time. If they stay away from Vampyres longer than a few hours, they will get weak and begin to sicken, if they stay awake for longer than that after this, they will reject the change and die.
-Red Fledglings will start to burn and eventually die if they stay in the sun for too long. It does burn them. During the day they are basically like the dead when they sleep.
-They cannot enter a private dwelling without permission from the owner, much like the old vampire legends (Note: The House is not a private dwelling, all buildings in the House are public property)
The Red Vampyres
Species Name?! Red Vampyres!
Life Expectancy?! Vampyres experience a longer life span, which is somewhere around 300, because they age much slower. They also experience a life without illness. We assume this of course. Theory says they can live forever, considering they already died, but who knows? They're a new breed and no one knows much just yet...
Diet?! Vampyres can eat a normal human diet, much like anyone else. However, for Red Vampyres, they need very very little actual food to survive. They actually don’t prefer it. Most of them will eat the bare minimum of actual food, they survive on blood.
Diet Notes?! All Vampyres need to drink blood daily to survive. They crave it. Red Vampyres, in fact, live on it. As such, they take in much more than the Blue Vampyres do. Most are just as cautious as the Blue Vampyres about where they take it from, though some prefer to take it from a living source.
Hierarchy?! Vampyre hierarchy is a real thing, even if it is not oppressive in any manner. All vampyres have to listen to the words of those on the council, and all Houses are led by a High Priestess, and the Red Vampyres have a High Priestess as well, though theirs is currently missing because Stevie Rae (the priestess) was best friends with Zoey, who was killed.
How?! A Vampyre comes to be after a fledgling makes the change, and how they do this is explained under Red Fledglings. They gain marks to show their status.
Offspring?! Red Vampyres are unable to have children. This is for the same reasons that the red fledglings cannot.
Appearance?! All of the appearance notes for red and blue fledglings still stand, but they appear to go more enhanced. They always appear to be super gorgeous and talented, according to the rumors (but no Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus all the same!) They also have a full set of Marks, to be explained below. The same feral notes also still stand from Red Fledglings.
The Abilities?!
- The Saliva, Sight, Body and Fang notes from Red Fledglings still stand
- Strength: Red Vampyres are stronger than humans and also stronger then Blue Vampyres. Basically, they are super strong.
- Compulsion: Also, they still have the hypnotic powers they had as Fledglings, only stronger, but eye contact must be made in order for this to work.
- Vampyres always know when the sun is about to rise
- Vampyres always have a very strong sense of intuition.
- They have a better sense of control over their Feral side
- Affinities, which are better explained in this thread here
The Marks?! After a fledgling makes the change into a Vampyre, the crescent on their forehead fills in, becoming fully blood red. They also gain marks that spread out from the crescent and are unique to the vampire. It reflects something important to them, or a great trait within them, for example Tabitha Hale is the Drama Professor and her Marks look like the Tragedy and Comedy masks.
The Feral State?! This is still much the same as the Fledglings. However, they’re stronger so it’s a lot scarier. To compensate, Red Vampyres have much better control over themselves and go feral much less.
Weaknesses?!
-Red Vampyres will start to burn and eventually die if they stay in the sun for too long. It does burn them. During the day they are basically like the dead when they sleep.
-They cannot enter a private dwelling without permission from the owner, much like the old vampire legends (Note: The House is not a private dwelling, all buildings in the House are public property)
The Black Fledglings
Okay, so the Black Fledgling info is much the same as the Red or Blue fledgling information depending on whether or not they were a Red or a Blue. So below is just listed the information about what will change with the black feather mark.
Now these guys are the result of Kalona's take over. He took over the House, so why not make his mark? Literally. These fledglings have been infected entirely by the darkness that is Kalona. Touched with the dark blade, they have made the ultimate show of being on Kalona and Nefert's side. See the issue here is, that though they aren't red or blue anymore, you'd never know it unless the mark is obvious or easy to see.
To put it simply, Kalona, Neferet, or a loyal follower literally carves the feather mark into the fledgling and the darkness of this blade forces the mark to heal abnormally fast and scar black. There is no internal pain from this marking, its just the pain one would normally get from having a knife carve something into one. The chemical changes go by unnoticed, pain wise. This mark is where ever the fledgling chooses, or if they aren't the most willing of recipients, wherever the person marking them can get to. Black fledglings are the strongest of the fledglings, which is a gift from Kalona for choosing his side in this battle. Also, all things are enhanced: affinity, speed, strength, endurance, etc.
The Black Vampyres
Much the same as with the Black Fledglings, rather than restating all the info above, only the changes that come with being a Black Vampyre are listed below. Other than that, they have much the same characteristics they would have if they had continued as a Blue or Red Vampyre.
There are two types of Black Vampyres, those who got marked with the feather as fledglings and those that chose it when they are already a normal blue or red vampyre. Being a Vampyre already and getting Marked by Kalona's Feather is no easy task...its a painful as hell one. Picture rejecting the change painful. The reaction that the blade has with the skin when one is already a Vampyre is not a pleasant one...because when one becomes a Vampyre is when being marked Black really begins to have symptoms. Black Vampyres are different then most...their affinities become even more enhanced then they were before...and their marks become filled in, as expected. What's not expected is that the outline around the Mark becomes black and the Tattoo's that frame the face and expand from the original mark are entirely black. The mark itself, on the inside, is still the color it should have been though, so that one always know what one was at one time... So wanna know the perks? Because, duh, there's perks. Besides having enhanced affinities, these Vampyres are stronger then Blue and Red Vamp's.
Also, a previously red no longer burns up in the sun when they make the change however there's still the chance that they can go feral. All fledglings that are black make the change the same way, as if they were blue and feel the normal amount of pain that a blue fledgling would making the change. Because Kalona doesn't want to chance them picking good of course.
And they have one hell of a strong connection with Kalona...one that is not so easily broken.
The Raven Mockers
Species Name?! Raven Mockers!
Life Expectancy?! Because of their half immortal inheritance, Raven Mockers are immortal until killed by an outside force.
Diet?! Raven Mockers actually have no need to eat really, not unless they want to. But as a rule, when a Raven Mocker does decide to eat, it is often meat that they feast on, they are carnivorous. Though, as said before, they do not have to eat.
Diet Notes?! Raven Mockers don’t need to physically eat because they can keep themselves just as alive and well on fear as they can on physical food. This is why they are usually intimidating all around them.
Hierarchy?! The hierarchy of the Raven Mockers is mostly following the time honored tradition of oldest comes first, and follows that age down. However, the more ruthless mockers can often catch the eye of Kalona which can raise them in the standing, and those that are weaker can gain his disapproval and lower them in the eyes of their father.
How?! The legend of the Raven Mocker is an old one, but a true one. Originally, when Kalona walked the earth, he was women crazed. He raped the women of the Cherokee tribe, forcing them to lay down in his bed. The fearsome creatures that were created from this, half man, half immortal, all nightmare-ish creature, were the Raven Mockers. Legend says they are loyal to no one but their father and they are ruthless with no conscience…but who really knows.
Offspring?! Raven Mockers are unable to have offspring
Appearance?! Raven Mockers originally looked half raven and half human. They were scary and gruesome. However, when Kalona came to power, he started gaining in power. He used this power to make his children look beautiful. They now have glorious, normal sized black wings, big enough to allow them to fly and look like a Raven’s wings. They are always male, and look like handsome men, albeit with slightly bird like features. They always have darker eyes and resemble their father, but also their Cherokee heritage is clear in their looks
The Abilities?!
- Can Inspire fear
- Strength: Raven Mockers are incredibly strong and fierce
- Flight: Raven Mockers have the ability to fly
- They have the power to consume a dying person's soul in order to sustain its own life.
