That is not the correct element, Myrnin dear The voice filtered to him as if in a dream. Myrnin pushed his long curly dark hair away from his face and looked up to see the very uptight and proper Ada scowling at him from across the room. "Yes, Yes I knew that Ada" he muttered as he put down the compound he was about to use and picked up the blue vial next to it. An easy drop of the dopper and a gentle poof of smoke. Yes, yes that was what was supposed to happen. He almost thanked Ada but he would not give her the satisfaction. She would not be allowed to know how valuable she was, that was not good for her.
He straightened and walked across the room to remember to feed Bob the spider, his long knee length coat that looked like it belonged in another era flapping behind him as he did. He picked up the vial of live flies and poored them into the glass container where Bob stayed. Bob needed companions, yes, yes he did. Myrnin cooed to the thing like most people did with their cats.
Speaking of cats.
He scooped up the sweet little ginger kitten from where she sat next to Bob, slowly edging away from the spider as if she believe it would eat her. "Claire don't be silly. I do believe I've told you that Bob is harmless, haven't I?" he said, setting the kitten back down on the main lab counter as he went back to work. "Now fetch me that vial, would you dear?" he asked. He truly did need a new assistant and soon, Claire meant well but she often fell behind on the job. He looked up to see Ada glaring at Claire and sighed. "Oh please Ada dear she's just a kitten" he said to the apparation and She is trying to take you away from me was the reply.
He sighed and took the vial that Claire had rolled over to him with a thank you. He was tired of Ada's jealous antics, they wore at his nerves. He would no longer discuss this with her and sent her away, scratching behind Claire's ear. The kitten was always so much happier when Ada wasn't around.
He was about to add the final element to his alchemic concoction when he heard a noise outside his lab. A new assistant? Perhaps? He hoped. He stepped away from the table, curious.
And entirely forgetting he was wearing vampire bunny slippers.
