Why was he being so sweet to her? It’d be easier to ignore him and move on with her life if he stopped with the cute comments and being sweet. It wasn’t like she was inviting it or anything, he was just…doing it! Why? Well, probably for the same reason that most boys did the things they did, to get in her pants or something…right? That was what her aunts always told her and from what she had seen, it was entirely true. Sad, but true. He didn’t seem to want that from what she could tell. But he was making her all flustered which made her hair turn pink which was…annoying. She hated that quirk about herself. She was trying to remain impassive and move on as soon as possible, he was simply making that hard for reasons she didn’t understand! Why was he making this so hard for her? Was it a random mission in life for him or something? She shook her head and turned her attention back to him, because now he was talking.
And now he was complementing her. Again. She blushed a bit, but she was a bit shocked. How had he known to pick a dark blue for her? That was beyond weird to her…she wore all white, she kept herself entirely impassive and never showed any preference, but when she walked in dreams, she always wore dark blue. It was her favorite color, which was a fact she never told anyone. ”I would if I could” she muttered entirely to herself, without realizing she had spoken out loud. And then she shook her head and turned her attention back to him, trying not to dwell on the fact that she had just spoken to herself out loud. ”Why do you say dark blue?” she asked, curious. She was so not going to comment on the fact that he had paid her a complement. Not if she could help it!
But the way he acted after he spoke, that was what made her question her earlier thought that boys only paid you complments to get in your pants. He was acting all bashful, rocking on his heels and all and it actually made her laugh a bit. It was a soft noise that she so rarely used…ever. And she had shocked herself that she had actually laughed for once. Usually Finn was the only one to ever hear her laugh about…anything. But she had laughed in front of this boy. She ducked her face behind her hair until she could compose herself enough to rejoin the real world.
She nodded, impressed about his affinity. It seemed more useful than her stupid one. Not that hers was actually an affinity. She had been born with her ability to dream walk. And her ability to get sucked in to the damn place if she wasn’t careful. Subconsciously her hand came up the brush the always lit lantern that hung around her neck. It was her guide back to the real world if she ever got stuck in the land of dreams and such. But that was what happened when she was born in that world, and not this one. She was never supposed to manifest physically in the real world, but she had. And she wanted to stay here. She nodded at him thought, the cute boy. She didn’t want to think that, but she did. ”At least you have a useful affinity, Xander” she said with a small smile, still being impassive but unable to help that little smile. It had mostly been because she had actually said his name. She kinda liked how it was…different. ”Mine is entirely useless” she said, slightly exhasperated with it, obviously.
She tilted her head a bit, studying him after her own wolf, her friend and companion that usually helped her ward off boys and helped her be her impassive self backed down. Finn never backed down, especially not around boys. That was why she had called him Finvarra in the first place! He didn’t like boys and usually he was so good at keeping them away from her. But he had backed down from this one. What did that say about him. She frowned a little, studying the boy when his attention was on her pup. He had never back down before. She wasn’t used to that in the slightest. She pulled her face back into neutral when Xander had straightened and spoken. ”I suppose so” she replied, her voice thoughtful. Because she was. This was something that had never happened to her before. It was so strange.
She wasn’t sure how she felt about it.
