Tabitha was waiting in a classroom today, not the auditorium, why? There were build sets up and for the new musical they had all year to get that done, as well as learning about how to act, the history of the theater, and, well, everything else! She also had a research paper idea in mind, choose a famous playwright and write a three page paper on him or her. What? Tabitha couldn’t always be nice; she had to be firm…sometimes.
So today on each student’s desk there was a copy of the policy agreement, stating that they had to comply with school rules as well as her rules, if you’re in a play you need to pay a minimum of $20 , behind the scenes work is not included in those funds, that’s free. Students had time to turn it in, and she didn’t really care if students forgot to turn it in. The paper on the other hand she would care deeply if they forgot.
Amelia was sitting on the desk, purring happily as Tabitha scratched the kitten’s head. Sure she missed her first cat Ginger, but Amelia was just adorable and she was very much like Tabby, eccentric and lovely. Tabby was just getting some work done before the kids entered the classroom. She was just looking over the student’s names and faces on the seating chart she made on her laptop, and on the board behind her was her name and the seating chart she was looking at.
She heard the students file in, she looked up and saw two students she knew rather well, Astraea Dike, a quiet fledgling, and her boyfriend Pride Osiris, another quiet fledgling but they brought the best out in each other, and she often paired them up together because she knew they worked well together. Now… She looked up and saw a few new fledglings as well as some familiar faces that she couldn’t place a name with. Now let’s see…
She stood up and smiled sweetly at her students then moved to the front of the desk. ”Most of you know me, I hope, but if you don’t, I’m Professor Hale, I know some teachers will let you call them by their first name, but not me. It’s either Miss Hale or Professor Hale or even just Hale, never call me Tabitha…Unless you’re a fifth former then you can.” She smiled and sat down on the desk, crossing her legs, right over the left, and she looked at all her students. ”In front of you is the policy sheet, I don’t care if you don’t turn it in but…Here’s a little secret, on the back of the sheet is the course plan for this semester as well as a major assignment due at the end of this semester as well, do not forget the paper, that’s worth thirty percent of your grade. It may not seem like a lot but believe me, it is.” She turned around and grabbed a copy of the sheet off her desk and looked back at the students. ”Follow me along here please. If you had me before then just sign your name at the bottom and turn it in.”
”Merry meet fledglings. Welcome to Drama, some of you may remember that in this class participation is the key to passing. A little information about myself, I’ve been an actress in three major Broadway productions as well as taught students how to act for many years. My affinity is to help you become a better actor or actress if that is what you want to do with your life. Do not think this class is just an easy A, it’s not. Also with this class you must choose a famous playwright like Andrew Lloyd Webber or Shakespeare, not Maxwell Sheffield because he’s not real, and write a three page paper, I’ll explain more when it becomes crucial to finish. I expect you all to follow the class rules as well as my class rules.
Rule Number 1, No talking when I’m talking
Rule Number 2, No food in my class
Rule Number 3, No gum!
And Rule Number 4, Have fun.
Other than that, you’re pretty good, any questions?” She looked around the room and kept her smile. She loved to watch the students, maybe if they were good she’d end class early today.
