Diamond Dogs…

Miyuki narrowed her eyes. She did NOT appreciate being called a dog. Diamond or otherwise. Sure, she was a grade-A bitch, but that didn’t make it okay for others to call her a dog. She sighed. Oh well. There wasn’t much she could do about it considering her job. Her heels clicked just loud enough to be vaguely audible among the hustle and bustle of the busy street as she picked up her pace noticing the sun was starting to set. Damn… she was going to get lectured if she was late. As much as Miyuki hated her job, she hated being lectured more.

As Miyuki turned off the main street and into an alleyway, she picked up her pace to a slight jog. She should be there already. Getting ready always took too long for her, but she had been visiting her brother and sister. Her sister, May, was recovering from yet another surgery at the hospital while her brother, Andettan, who she called Ande, was waiting at the insane asylum for Miyuki to pay the money to get him out. May still had multiple risky and expensive surgeries and treatments she needed. The three of them had never had much money before May had gotten so sick. Miyuki owed it to her brother and sister to do whatever she could to help them and pay the debts both owed. It wasn’t just her responsibility as the eldest triplet, but Andettan and May had somehow managed to gather the money to pay Miyuki’s bail when Miyuki had been arrested for setting the lord’s son on fire.

In Miyuki’s defense, the lord’s son really should have kept his hands to himself and left Miyuki and May alone and not have been chasing after them, harassing them. It wasn’t Miyuki’s fault she had a short temper… or was an abnormally powerful, abnormally skilled pyrotechnic.

Miyuki took another turn and soon she was in what some people referred to as “the underworld” to today’s people, it would be called “the red light district”. Another turn down an alley and Miyuki hurriedly approached a set of doors being blocked by two men. Two brothers actually. Two brothers she had known almost all her life. Miyuki couldn’t help but smile when she saw them. “Hey Colby, Steven.” She greeted, smiling happily as she hopped up into the older brother’s arms.

Colby was the older brother and anyone who had known Colby and Miyuki growing up easily predicted the two of them would end up together. They were… in ways… but Miyuki’s job made things… difficult. Colby hated Miyuki’s job about as much as she herself did… possibly more. She felt like he was constantly trying to talk her out of it. Don’t get her wrong, Miyuki loved (and still to this day loves) Colby so much she could never think of the words to explain or describe it. Not that Miyuki ever would aloud… to anyone. But Miyuki NEEDED the money, and if he couldn’t handle her job… then they were going to have a problem.

“Hey Yuuie” Colby murmured before the couple (of rabbits) were kissing… which quickly evolved into full blown making out… which would have led somewhere else fast if Steven didn’t interrupt them. “You’re going to be late, Mia.”

Mia Euliette Kediri. That was Miyuki’s birth name, but for reasons only known to the (somewhat) happy couple, Miyuki had decided to change it. She took the first syllables of her name and put them together. Mi-Eu-Ke. Miyuki.

Miyuki ignored Steven and simply flipped him off, momentarily forgetting about her rush. But that was just before the door the brothers were standing in front of swung open and Sephora “The Boss” Taryn peered out and glared slightly. “Miyuki, get off your man and get in here. Now.” The taller girl said in a deadpanned and slightly sarcastic tone, not at all surprised to see the two in their current entanglement. Steven simply shook his head laughing while Miyuki on the other hand turned her head away from Colby (who decided to assault her neck with kisses while her head was turned, gaining giggles and a small, near inaudiable moan from the pale girl) to respond to her friend with a simple “Kayyy.”

Sephora disappeared behind the door as it shut and as it shut and as three watched the door, as quiet as can be, listening to the bossy lady walk away. When it sounded like she was gone, Miyuki, being as rebellious as always just went back to kissing Colby, who really didn’t seem to mind.

“Aww, really? Do you both have to do that with me around? Geeze, can’t you two wait till I leave at least?!” Steven asked in a exasperated yet laughing tone. Neither Colby nor Miyuki got the chance to respond when they heard Sephora’s voice boom in the distance from far behind the closed door. The brothers and Miyuki all froze in shock, surprised Sephora could still hear them from behind the thick door and all the way down the hallway. “Miyuki! I said now!”

The three outside were frozen in their silence for a moment, staring at the door before all three burst into laughter. The couple quickly kissed goodbye and Miyuki hugged Steven before quickly hurrying inside before Sephora could yell again. Leaving the two brothers outside.

It was deathly silent between the two brothers with the distant hustle and bustle of the street not too far off like background noise as the sun set. Steven shifted around on his feet for a moment before turning to look at his older brother. Colby wasn’t that much older than Steven was, but old enough that Steven seemed to look up to his older brother and go to him for guidance. “Hey, Colby?” Steven asked, somewhat unsure of himself.

“What’s up, Steven?” Colby asked, shifting his gaze to his younger brother.

“It kills you that she works here, doesn’t it?” Steven asked.

It was Colby’s turn to let out the exasperated sigh. “As much as it kills you that Aqune works here.” He answered in a dull tone. Of course he hated it! What male in their right mind would be perfectly okay with the woman they loved working in a place like this?! Colby ran his hands through his short blond hair as he turned his head skywards and let heaved out another sigh… just in time to catch glimpse of the sneaky little bohemian that always somehow managed to sneak in attempt to climb across a clothes line to get to the rooftop of the building both girls had just entered. He laughed at the sight, causing Steven to catch notice and look up too. “He’s back?” Steven asked with a laugh.

“Looks like it.” Colby answered in a laughing tone. As much as the little monkey-boy caused trouble at their place of employment, he was always good for a laugh due to his crazed antics. He amused near everyone that met him… with an exception of the big boss of course. Colby smiled slightly. Well, if the bohemian was here, then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad of a night after all? He could only hope really.

Sephora’s flat boots made no noise as she maneuvered her way through the place she lived, her place of employment. Her uncle’s lovely establishment. She only bothered to begin to walk when she was sure the small rebellious girl was behind her again. She was always late and it gave The Boss, who was in charge of making sure the girls did what they were supposed to, a headache. Her tired sapphire eyes closed as she passed a hand over her face, before tying up her long black hair in a loose knot at the back of her head. “You’re late, Miyuki. Siblings again?” Her tone held a small ounce of concern. She didn’t bother to turn to look as she spoke.

She knew Miyuki was behind her.

It was a sixth sense about her that, quite seriously, crept out many of the Diamond Dogs. Miyuki followed along, and if the girl was capable of it, she would have been pouting. She truly did hate this job. But she would do her best for her siblings. “Isn’t it always, Boss Lady?” she answered with a slight grin, mischief clear in her silver eyes.

Sephora didn’t bother to answer as someone else caught her attention. She waved Miyuki forward, hoping the rebel would actually get ready for her job, to turn towards a girl with white blonde hair whose back was turned to her. She laid her hand on the girl’s shoulder, causing the blonde to jump. Giggling she whirled around, storm colored eyes relieved when she saw it was Sephora. “Jeez, gimme a heart attack!” the bubbly Raine said as she straightened her blue and teal skirts that covered her lean dancers legs…for now. Raine was the reason Sephora was still here. Yes this was her family’s place…but she would have left long ago due to the hate she had for her uncle…if her best friend wasn’t one of the Dogs. Again and again she offered to pay to get Raine out of here. Again and again Raine insisted it was the only dancer’s gig she could get. It was a lie…but Raine was too proud.

“Sorry, Raine,” Sephora sighed, plucking Nightmare, Raine’s cat from her shoulder. “Finish getting ready, I’ll see you later.” She walked away from her best friend, saving their usual battle for later.

She looked up to see a familiar figure racing through the hallways. How had that Bohemian boy managed to get in here again? She shook her head. Let him be, she supposed, he made Red happy at least. And keeping their star happy was a very good thing.

Justin, the Bohemian in question, was running for his life. Damn why did some bouncer decide now would be fun to try and chase him out? Well, he knew why…but that wasn’t the important thing here! He ducked as a vase almost hit his head. “Trying to kill me!?” he yelled incredulously over his shoulder, his blue eyes wide as he was afraid he’d be killed by this man.

The man simply grinned, his black hair flowing to his waist as he stopped his chase, but it didn’t stop him from answering. “Maybe!” he called with a laugh as Justin turned around the corner quickly.

The backstage of the Moulin Rouge was like a maze in a way. The crowded hallways were filled with many girls, wearing many colorful skirts and fineries that were enough to distract a lesser man. But Justin had a goal. He had a mission. He would not be stopped by…hey look she’s wearing bright orange… He blinked and looked up in time to stop short before his face slammed into the wall. Crap, turn! He skidded to a turn, the bubbly laugh of the girls following him out. He didn’t know that quite often, he was the entertainment for these girls who mostly did not want to be here, working here. He pushed his brown hair from his face, blaming that for his reason for almost crashing instead of his failish ways.

He ducked around this woman and that…heading for the elephant room at the very top. That was where Red was, and he had to wish her luck, didn’t he? He knew she was meeting her lovely duke tonight, and maybe she’d actually get out of here. He opened the door without knocking to see a girl with a long shimmering curtain of red hair standing in the middle of the room. In nothing more then a corset and panties…the stuff she wore under the complicated burlesque dresses she wore. Justin immediately turned bright red and ducked his head, backing away. And of course he knocked over a vase. And jumped when it fell.

Red whirled around at the noise and laughed when she saw who is was. “You silly Bohemian!” she said with laughter and amusement in her voice as she fetched her silk black robe from the bed and wrapped it around herself, walking over to the broken pieces. “What are you doing here again? Kalona will kill you one of these days.”

She helped him pick it all up as he grinned sheepishly at her. “I had to wish you luck, Red.” She rolled her eyes at him.

“Sure that’s all it is. What else are you here for?” she teased. She knew the other reason of course, but it still amused her to ask. She didn’t wait for her answer before shifting to her dresser to begin applying her make-up for tonight. She was running late after all.

She didn’t need to see him either to know he had that dreamy look all Bohemian’s got on their face when they talked of these silly notions he was about to start spilling from his lips. Her own full lips were pursed in the mirror as she applied her color to them. “For love, Red! What else is there? Love is all you need,” he said behind her, dreamy look in place.

She straightened. “I can guarantee you no girl here is looking for love, Justin. Well…except for Ki and Aqu….but you must see how it tears at them. No girl who does what we do should love,” she frowned as she spoke these words. Maybe she wanted to love…to lose herself in the feeling. But she wasn’t allowed this of course. None of them truly were…don’t fall in love. That was the main rule here. She wished it weren’t so… “Either way. The girl who you wish to woo definantly is not looking for love. And Marluxia may kill you if he catches you staring at her again.”

“He already tried and failed!” Justin declared proudly when she said that, chosing to ignore the other statement she made. He knew it upset her…they had spoken of it before and he knew it upset Red to talk about it…so he left it alone.

“Either way, you’re too chicken to make a move!” she declared with another laugh, her sadness about love shoved to the background for now.

He was about to lie for sure and say that he was not a chicken, when the doorknob turned. “It’s Kalona! Get out of here!” she cried as she shoved him behind the table. And the tall dark and handsome man in question entered just as Justin got out of sight. “Kalona,” she said with a grin on her face, intending to distract him so her friend could get away. She purposely let the robe slip slightly open so his eyes would be distracted. She swore if Kalona caught him here again he’d skin Justin alive.

“Red,” the man’s low voice said, obviously amused but then a slight frown crossed his lips as he took in her appearance. He cared for Red far more then he allowed to show. He had a good hold on his emotions after all. “Why are you not dressed? You have a busy night tonight.” He said, obviously displeased with her undressed state. Well…actually that didn’t displease him per se….he actually would much rather her less clothed…

He shook those thoughts from his mind. Red made to answer him…but she started coughing again. Covering her mouth with her hand to hide the blood that she coughed, she quickly sought to stop. And Kalona moved closer to comfort her.

Justin took this as his cue to get the hell out of there. Sliding down the banister and trying hard not to fall when he reached the end, and failing, he got out f there. He didn’t like Red’s coughing…but there wasn’t much he could do about it.

Besides, one of the two reasons he actually came to the Moulin Rouge caught his attention then…it was hard not to when she wore bright red and black. And he frowned at what he was doing…even if it was normal for the girls here to do it…they did have to be paid, didn’t they? It didn’t mean he had to like it. He hid in the balcony though, tucked away behind a curtain. Red’s words echoed in his head as he hid. But he just…couldn’t move closer.

Crissatha gathered her red and black skirts to walk across the wooden floor with a small smirk on her full lips. She hated this outfit. She hated this job. She had no other choice. Cris was one of the Dogs that actually lived at the Moulin Rouge because she had no where else to go. When she started to favor the loose, rebellious ways of the Bohemian Revolution, her mother had kicked her out with not a penny to her name. There was also the whole…she had frozen her mother’s bath bit with her hands when her mother had pissed her off, but that wasn’t important right then. Either way.

She had no where else to go…so she had ended up here. Turns out boys had liked her icy eyes and chestnut colored hair enough to pay a pretty penny. She had figured it would be a quick time before she was out of her and in her own place. It had been a year though and she was still here.

She had to be thankful that she had Marluxia at least. The boy was her savior in more ways then one. He had found her wandering the streets, starving and alone. And reluctantly he brought her to where he worked as a bouncer. And now he felt he had another job, keeping his best friend and trouble maker out of trouble. It was a full time job for him sadly.

But right now she was making her way across the dance floor to where a very yummy gentleman sat. His chocolate features focused on her body and the way the corset she wore actually managed to give her curves. He knew first hand that she wore that…hard for him not to. Cris didn’t mind playing with the boy. The little Lordling actually paid her well…

“To what do I owe this pleasure, Sir Night?” she asked, grinning as she placed her hands over shoulders, leaning down slightly. And Darius’s answering smirk almost made her laugh. She may get her fun after then show then with someone she actually didn’t mind playing with.

The Boss interrupted her before he could answer though. “Cris, get your butt back up here!” Sephora called from the balcony, so close to where Justin hid. So close to where Justin was letting out a relieved sigh. Cris rolled her eyes.

“Comin’ Boss Lady,” she said as she stood, winking at her Lordship before turning on her annoying as shit heal before bumping into Astraea who had been most likely coming to get her too. Cris wasn’t supposed to be down here just yet. But since when had Cris ever followed the rules? The Doc’s daughter smiled at her “big sis” as the taller girl loped her arm around Raea’s shoulder as the pair made their way back to where the other girls were.

For some reason…Cris had a feeling tonight was going to be interesting.
