Amelie sat behind her desk, as always, looking prim and proper and done up properly. When did Amelie not look impeccable though? It was something that she had learned growing up, always show the right side of yourself, never show a crack in the walls or let anyone see that you may be vulnerable in any way. Oh no, Amelie always looked like a force to be reckoned with and she liked it that way. She did, of course, run a multi-million dollar corporation in Tulsa proper after all, and had an empire in her own right to look after.
And a bunch of fledglings.
In a rare weak moment, the woman sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. Sam, her Eqyptian Mau who was so named because he acted like her long lost love, rubbed against her side, trying to calm her. She took a moment to stroak along his back, grateful for the companion for once. Amelie was not cut out for teaching, and that was an understatement and a half. The woman was not what one would call kind and compassionate, but she was patient, which was at least one score in her favor. She was only doing this because of Myrnin.
Because someone, some idiot, most likely Kalona, had thought it was a good idea to pick a man who most frequently went nuts and tried to eat people as a professor. He was brilliant, of that there was no doubt. The man was smarter than most people ever gave him credit for. And he was a wonderful chemistry teacher she was sure. On his good days. She just wasn’t sure that he had all that many of those all the time, so she had gotten a job here as well, to supervise him. And there was the fact that she herself did enjoy literature.
It was the teaching it that was an issue really.
She shook her head. She had assigned the first three chapters of the book “Speak” for class. The book had been chosen by her predecessor but it seemed appropriate. It was, after all, about a girl who was trying to find her voice, to speak up and finally say what was bothering her. And in the House, these days, with everything going on…well it was an appropriate theme because she doubted many fledglings really knew what was going on anymore.
Though, they wouldn’t know why the girl couldn’t speak up, not just yet, and they wouldn’t really know what was going on either. The book was very good at keeping things to itself until they needed to be revealed, it took a skilled author for that. She had simply asked the fledglings to read the assigned chapter, and then reveal what they thought about Melinda—whether she was simply complaining or whether she seemed to have a reason to be upset and complaining—and how they connected to her, if they did connect to her at all that is.
It wasn’t a hard assignment, at least, Amelie didn’t think so. And so now she was just sitting back and waiting for them to appear. There was only five minutes until class after all.
Muse: Blech
Comments: Yes it's short. No I don't care lol
